WHEN

The Dordt Defender baseball team will play a pair of doubleheaders to start this week.  The Defenders will host Dakota Wesleyan on Monday at 3:00 and Dordt will face Briar Cliff in a doubleheader at Sioux City, Iowa on Tuesday, April 3 beginning at 1:00.

RECENTLY

Dordt split its two games on Saturday with Midland as they won 4-2 and lost 8-3.  In the win Dordt overcame a 2-0 seventh inning deficit and got the eventual winning margin on a Dylan Stanley homerun in the eighth. Gyeongju Kim got the complete game win with six hits allowed and struck out seven.  In game two Jason Carrig was 3-3 at the plate but the Defenders were fighting from behind the entire game.

Dakota Wesleyan lost a pair of games to Midland on Sunday, April 3 by scores of 11-3 and 12-1. Mizsak took the loss in game one with a three and a third inning performance and walked three with hist given up. His defense didn't help the cause with four of his eight runs surrendering being unearned. Seth Christianson took the loss in game two with six innings pitched and he allowed three runs on six hits.  The Wesleyan bullpen was charged with nine runs in the final two innings.

Briar Cliff lost to Northwestern on March 27 by scores of 8-4 and 11-10. Austin Carter took the loss in relief of game two with two strikeouts in four innings. Easton Cone was 3-4 in the second game with three runs batted in with a double.

THE SERIES

Dordt has a 7-4 advantage in the series with Dakota Wesleyan dating back to March 30, 2018. The Defenders have won five games in a row dating back to a 4-3 win in Tucson Arizona on March 7, 2020.  Last year's doubleheader went to Dordt with a 4-0 and 1-0 sweep by the Defenders in Sioux Center on April 2.

Briar Cliff owns an 8-1 edge in the series since 2018 and the teams split the most recent outing with an 8-1 Dordt win on March 28, 2022 and a 9-7 Briar Cliff win. Diego Benitez pitched seven innings and allowed two hits in the win with seven strikeouts.

The Defenders are scheduled to travel to Seward, Nebraska on Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8 in a pair of doubleheaders.
