(Wednesday, April 4; Sioux Center, Iowa) Jacob Hargens, a senior at Sioux Central High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.
"Jacob is versatile—he's a great passer, shooter, driver, and defender. What sets him apart is his leadership. He is a communicator and is a friend with everyone. He will be a leader in this program someday and I look forward to his development in his faith life and as a player," said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.
Hargens is a 6-3 forward who scored 1,952 career points and averaged 27.3 points per game with 10 rebounds per outing as a senior. He was named first-team all-conference, all-substate and all-state this season and also earned academic all-state honors.
"I chose Dordt because I love the people here and their values. The coaches and players welcomed me right away and they believed in me early in my high school career," said Hargens.
Jacob is the son of John and Karen Hargens of Greenville, Iowa. He plans to study business at Dordt.
