(Thursday, July 13; Sioux Center, Iowa) Jared Hughes, a graduate of Malibu High School (California) and student at Ventura Community College, has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender baseball program.
Hughes pitched 51 innings for Ventura Community College in 12 appearances with 31 strikeouts. He earned first-team all-conference honors in high school and first-team all-CIF.
"I want to attend a school that focuses on building men and women in their faith. As an athlete my identity is not in baseball, it is in Christ," said Hughes.
Hughes plans to study health and human performance.
Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).?
U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
