The Dordt University men's soccer team turned in a record-setting performance in defeating Union College (Neb.) 18-0 in the Defenders home opener played tonight on their home turf.
The Defenders established two team records in tonight's win, setting new marks for goals and shots-on-goal in a match. Dordt's 18 goals scored breaks the old record (12) set in 2016 and its 29 shots on-goal eclipses the old mark (28) set in 2017 against Nebraska Christian.
The Record-Breaking Goal!
11 different players scored at least one goal for the Defenders, led by a trio of players,
Jacob Narkis,
Quintin Olson and
Yura Rozendal, who all recorded their first career hat-trick.
Blake Hansen scored two goals, pushing his career total to 32, while
Tyson Reitsma,
Javier Moscardo,
Kaleb Lee,
Dylan McIntosh,
Marco Laenen,
Tim DeVries and
Tyler Van Hofwegen put away one goal each.
Eight Defenders registered assists, highlighted by Moscardo, Narkis and
Santiago Carvajal all with two.
The Defenders scored early and often, finding the back of the net during the second minute on a goal by Moscardo and assisted by Hansen, who scored the next two goals to give Dordt at 3-0 lead at the 8-minute mark. Head Coach
Eric Bourdo's squad added seven more goals in the first half to take a 10-0 halftime lead.
Leading 13-0, Dordt scored the final five goals during an eight minute stretch of the second half.
Brandon Hansen (1-1) combined with
Seth Andrews for the shutout. Hansen improved his career record to 11-20.
Dordt will host Central Baptist (Ark.) on Saturday at 5pm.
