Dordt defeats Concordia 38-7
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders pulled away from a 10-0 halftime lead to defeat Concordia 38-7 to improve to 3-0 this season heading into a bye week.
Dordt's first score came on the second play of the second quarter when
Kolson Kruse completed a pass to
Isaac Looker to the two-yard line and Kruse carried it around the edge on the next play for a 7-0 lead after the point after. The drive was set up by Abe Stoesz's interception at the Concordia 36-yard line.
Dordt's next possession was a 15 play, 44-yard drive that ended with a missed 47 yard field goal attempt. Concordia's drive went to the Dordt 10 and with a minute left in the half Dordt's
Ian MacDonald dropped into coverage and intercepted a pass in the end zone and returned it to the Dordt 38-yard line. The Defenders engineered a drive that ended with
Stephen Leinen converting a 40-yard field goal for a 10-0 halftime lead.
Concordia had the ball to start the second half but a sack by
Drew Daum on fourth and six at the Dordt 33 ended the threat and Kruse capped the ensuing drive with a 23-yard run for a 17-0 lead with 9:33 left in the quarter.
Concordia was forced to punt on the next possession and Dordt took the ball 80 yards on 12 plays and capped the drive with a
Nick Wellen to
Eli Boldan 20-yard pass for a 24-0 lead.
Concordia scored to cut the lead to 24-7 but a
Lucas Huttinga interception set up a 36 yard drive that Kruse capped with a one yard run and
Ian MacDonald picked off a second pass to set the stage for a
Daniel Dickerson two-yard touchdown to cap the scoring at 38-7.

- Dordt's defense held Concordia to four yards on the ground and 219 yards passing.
- The Dordt offense had 216 rushing yards and 165 yards passing.
- Dordt's defense had seven sacks and forced four turnovers
- Kolson Kruse was 16-26 passing for 145 yards and he ran for 63 yards on 16 carries with three touchdowns.
- Preston McCoy had nine carries for 58 yards.
- Brendan Pieper had 10 carries for 45 yards.
- Nick Wellen had seven rushes for 22 yards and a pass completion for 20 yards.
- Konner Knauf caught six passes for 55 yards and Isaac Looker caught four passes fr 31 yards.
- Eli Boldan had three catches for 38 yards and one touchdown.
- Ian MacDonald had eight solo and three assisted tackles and two interceptions.
- Abe Stoesz had three solo and four assisted tackles with an interception and a tackle for a loss.
- Drew Daum had two sacks and four solo stops with Jessup Leakey getting two sacks too.
- Dordt is now 3-0 while Concordia is 1-2. Dordt will be off this week before resuming play on September 30 against Hastings on the road.
