Defenders Hold Off Tiger's Late Comeback Attempt

Box Score The Dordt University Defenders defeated the Dakota Wesleayn Tigers by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday night in Mitchell.

Karinna Tel put in the first goal of the night in the 23rd minute. Tel pressured the Tiger's goalkeeper, Abigail Colgrove, and won the ball. Tel then dribbled around her and finished it past two defenders.

Tel scored her second in the 36th minute off a short corner kick. Tel dribbled past a Tiger defender after receiving a pass from Joslyn Terpstra and took a shot that went off the cross bar and into the goal to go up 2-0 before halftime.

Karinna Tel returned the favor with a pass to Joslyn Terpstra that gave her a clear look at goal in the 52nd minute and to extend their lead 3-0. 

Ellie Stuart put in the Defenders' fourth goal of the evening off a cross from Karinna Tel. Tel dribbled down the sideline into the corner where she beat the defender on the goal line and found Stuart around the penalty spot and she finished with a one-time shot to the far post.

The Tigers put together a comeback attempt with three goals in the 56th minute, 59th minute, and 60th minute to bring the score within one with 30 minutes to play.

Joslyn Terpstra put in an insurance goal in the 67th minute off a free kick to go up 5-3.

The Defenders improve their record to 4-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in GPAC play. The Defender's will play their final non-conference game of the season tomorrow, September 28th, in Lincoln, Nebraska as they will face Nebraska Wesleyan.
