Dordt defeats Mount Marty 89-80
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender men's basketball team withstood a second half rally by the Mount Marty Lancers to secure an 89-80 win in Yankton, South Dakota on Wednesday night in GPAC play.
The Defenders trailed 15-10 seven minutes into the game when
Luke Rankin made a basket to ignite a 13-0 run that was capped by a
Jackson Louscher three-point shot and a
Ty Van Essen basket. Another 10-0 run later in the half extended the lead to 41-21 with 2:11 left in the period and Dordt managed a 45-28 halftime lead.
Dordt extended the lead to 61-39 after a
Lucas Lorenzen basket with 14:35 left in the game but an 8-0 run followed before Lorenzen knocked down a shot to push the lead back to 63-47 with 11:47 left in the contest. The two teams traded baskets to get to 66-50 but the Lancers went on a 22-3 run over the next four minutes to take a 72-69 lead. Lorenzen answered with a pair of free throws and followed with a basket in the paint for a 73-72 lead with 5:52 remaining. The score was tied on three more occasions, but Mount Marty never regained the lead with
Lucas Lorenzen getting a three-point basket with 2:38 left to start a 10-0 run, pushing Dordt from tied at 78 to up 88-78 before winning 89-80.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt was 33-64 from the field and 10-25 from the arc for 52 and 40 percent respectively.
- Dordt converted 13-15 free throws and committed 10 turnovers to 18 for the Lancers.
- Mount Marty made 27-63 field goals for 43 percent and made 10-23 three-point shots including 8-15 in the second half.
- The Lancers made 16-17 free throws and had a 34-33 rebounding edge.
- Dordt is 16-5 overall and 9-4 in the league and Mount Marty is now 5-15 and 1-13.
