The Dordt Defenders held on to a 4-3 win on the road over Maryville to improve to 5-0-1 this season. The win was the second by one goal over Maryville this weekend after winning on Thursday night in a shootout.
Dordt scored first with
Luke Kester finding the net for the first time this season on an assist by
Andrew Benson and
Mason Spejcher scored later in the period on assists by
Ryler Schelle and
Reuben Horneman. Dordt led 2-0 after one period.
Marysville scored in the second period but Dordt added goals by Horneman and Benson for a 4-1 lead going into the final period. Horneman's goal came off assists by
Griffin Lennes and
Zach Espenson and
Mike Torlina and Isaac Bart assisted on Benson's. It was Horneman's first career goal as well.
The Defenders ended up hanging on as Maryville got two through in the third to make the final 4-3.
Graeme Edmund made 36 saves in goal for the Defenders who will next play in their home opener on October 18 and 19 against Kansas. The games with Kansas start a five game homestand through November 9 and Dordt will play a total of eight of its next 11 games at home.
