Hockey | Defenders Finish ACHA Pool Play In 3-1 Loss

The Dordt Defenders were unable to recover from a second-period deficit as they dropped a 3-1 decision to Calvin in ACHA Division III play on Friday night at the national tournament hosted in St. Louis, Missouri.

After a scoreless opening period that featured limited chances, Calvin broke through midway in the second period with a power-play goal at the 6:43 mark to take a 1-0 lead. 

The Defenders responded quickly in the third period, needing just 40 seconds to pull even when Rylan Veenstra finished off an assist from Tegan Doelman to make it 1-1. The momentum was short-lived as Calvin answered with back-to-back goals over a two-minute stretch. The go-ahead goal came at 7:47, followed by an insurance tally at 9:41, pushing the Knights ahead 3-1. 

Dordt finishes the season with a 28-5 record and Calvin advances out of the pool with a 3-0 record.
