The Dordt Defender men's basketball team won its third straight game to start the season with a 95-85 win over the Mayville State Comets on Friday afternoon, November 8 in Orange City.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt trailed once with Mayville State scoring the first basket of the day but Dordt answered with 10 straight over the next three minutes with four different players scoring to compile the run. The string also included three-point baskets by
Jake Proctor and
Lucas Lorenzen.

Bryce Coppock basket at the 11:50 mark of the game put Dordt up by double digits at 21-10 and Dordt got the lead all the way to 40-20 with
Jake Hargens converting with 4:54 left in the half. The Comets seemed to neutralize the momentum by halftime  and brought the difference down to 48-34 at the break.
The lead fluctuated from 10-15 points in the second half with Mayville State finally getting the difference trimmed to 61-53 with 12:36 left in the game and the Comets had it down to 63-58 at the 10:40 mark.
Lucas Lorenzen got a couple free throws and
Connor Millikan added two of his own for a 67-58 advantage at the midpoint of the half.
The lead then went to double digits and Dordt had control until a three-point basket by Mayville State got the Comets back to 89-83 with just under a minute left. Dordt broke the press with its ensuing possession and
Ben Fairclough's dunk followed by a pair of Rankin free throws ended the threat and Dordt had an eventual 95-85 win.

Dordt converted 33-60 field goals and 5-19 three-point baskets.
Mayville State converted 33-71 field goals and 5-15 three-point attempts.
The Comets had a 35-33 rebounding advantage.
Dordt had 16 turnovers and Mayville State had 15.
