HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt Defender women's basketball team ran its winning streak to 11 with a 77-58 win over the College of Saint Mary Flames on Saturday afternoon, February 10 in Sioux Center, Iowa.

The Defenders took the lead for good on a Gracie Schoonhoven three-point play with 5:49 left in the first half for a 10-7 advantage. The lead grew to 23-12 after another Schoonhoven basket as she scored 19 points in the first half. The Defenders led 25-14 at the quarter break and then added a 25-11 second quarter to lead 50-25 at halftime. An 8-0 run in the period followed by another 7-0 run helped extend the Dordt advantage.

The third quarter was played evenly with the Flames trailing 69-24 at the break. Dordt had some cold shooting to start the fourth quarter but recovered after the visitors had cut the lead to 14 with two minutes remaining. A three-point basket by Brooke Smith and a McKenzie Goodwin basket restored order and the Defenders held the Flames scoreless over the final 2:22 for the 19-point margin.
