(Wednesday; February 14; Sioux Center, Iowa) Drake Gustafson, a senior at Ethan High School (South Dakota), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender football program.
Gustafson is 6-3, 190 pounds and played quarterback and defensive back at Ethan High School (South Dakota). He ran for 11 touchdowns and passed for another four last season and had two interceptions and 50 tackles on defense. Gustafson was a part of two 11B state runner-up teams and four playoff qualifying teams. He was a 2023 11B all-state selection and an Argus Leader Elite 45 honorable mention selection. Gustafson was an all-conference selection in 2023 after earning honorable mention honors in 2022 after making 39 tackles and getting three interceptions.
"I chose Dordt because it felt like home to me. While on visits I knew I would become a better person through faith, education and athletics. Faith is what Dordt is based on and it showed throughout the college and the community," said Gustafson.
Drake is the son of Jeff and Janet Gustafson of Ethan, South Dakota. He will study plant science.
Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).
U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
