(Wednesday, February 14; Sioux Center, Iowa) Tyler Mantel, a senior at Western Christian High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender football program.  

Mantel is a 6-1, 190 pound running back and linebacker. He ran for 2,755 yards during his career with 41 touchdowns and he had 34.5 tackles on defense.  Mantel was twice named first-team all-district and second-team once.   

"I chose Dordt because it felt like home.  It's where I will fin in the best on and off the field and it feels like a family I want to be a part of," said Mantel.  

Tyler is the son of Scott and Sherry Mantel of Rock Valley, Iowa. He plans to study business administration.    

Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).    

U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
