(Wednesday, February 14; Sioux Center, Iowa) Brycen Schwenka, a senior at Minden High School (Nebraska), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender football program.
Schwenka is 6-4, 215 pounds and had 98 tackles on defense and caught nine passes. He was named all-Tribland punter and earned all-region and all-district honors in 2022 while helping Minden to a state playoff berth. Schwenka was a Kearney Hub All-Region First-Team pick, a first-team all-region selection and an all-state honorable mention selection by the Omaha World Herald.
"I love the small community feel and the friendliness of everyone on campus, the winning tradition and support of the football team. Lastly the ag program is very impressive and I want to strengthen my bond with Christ," said Schwenka.
Brycen is the son of Erin and Dallas Schwenka of Minden, Nebraska. He plans to study agribusiness.
Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).
U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
