Corinne Braun (Canton, S.D.) has signed a letter of intent to attend Dordt University and join the Defender women's cross country and track and field programs.
Braun is a 5'6" middle distance and distance runner who competes for the Sioux Falls Christian High School cross country and track and field teams. Braun won dual titles at the South Dakota High School Cross Country Class A State Championships last fall, taking home the individual title while leading Sioux Falls Christian to the team title. She earned all-state honors the last two seasons. In track and field, Braun finished as the state runner-up in both the 1600m and 3200m and won a state title as a member of the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams. She was also a member of a 4x800 relay team that set the Class A Howard Wood Dakota Relays record (9:30.02) by over five seconds.
"I am excited to welcome Corinne to our program," commented Dordt University Head Cross Country Coach Nate Wolf. "Corinne has gained valuable experience running for one of the Midwest's strongest high school girl's programs at Sioux Falls Christian. She has also experienced incredible success, stemming from her strong and dedicated work ethic. Corinne's running background , coupled with her strong faith, will help her transition to collegiate racing and will allow her to quickly impact our program. Additionally, Corinne is a wonderful fit for Dordt University and will be an outstanding member of our campus and faith community. I look forward to working with her the next four years."
Braun has personal bests of 59.9 in the 400m, 2:16 in the 800m, 5:05 in the mile,10:53 in the 3200m and 18:02 in the 5000m. Braun plans to study exercise science and is the daughter of Matt and Tonia.
"I chose to attend Dordt University because its a place where I will be encouraged to excel in my faith, in my academic course of study and in my running career," stated Braun.
Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).
U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
