The Dordt University baseball team closed out the week with a 10-7 loss against Calumet College St.Joseph (Ind.) on the Defenders spring break trip in Lake Wales, Fla.
The Defenders have a 6-13 record on the season, 2-5 on their spring break trip; Calumet improves to 7-11.
Key Plays:
- Dordt pushed four runs across in the top of the first innings, totaling three hits and taking advantage of one Crimson Wave error
- Calumet rallied with eight runs in the bottom of the first, sending 12 batters to the plate and totaling five hits (all singles) and three walks
- Nicholas Anderson and Blaze Cano both hit 2-run singles
- leading 8-4, Calumet added two runs in the bottom of the third inning
- Tommy Benson hit a 2-out, 2-run single to put the Crimson Wave up 10-4
- Dordt came back with three runs on three hits in the top of the fourth
- Harris led off with a double and came around to score after an RBI single by Nolan Christianson
- West was hit-by-pitch and later scored, along with Christianson, on a single by Jason Carrig
- trailing 10-7, the Defenders had the tying run come up in the top of the fifth after Harris and Morgan Wilkens hit singles but the Defenders rally was stopped on a pop-up to the infield
By the Numbers:
- Dordt out-hit Calumet 9-8 and the Crimson Wave recorded the lone error
- this was the second consecutive game the Defenders did not make an error
- Harris led the Defenders at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two run scored
- Carrig totaled two RBIs and West extended his hit streak to eight games
- Matthew Eubanks (0-1) took the loss and gave up six earned runs in 2/3 of an inning
- Justin Bryson pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless relief
- Zack Zborowski (2-0) earned the win for Calumet
