Box Score 2 GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt saw fantastic defensive play all game as
Chaz Gothard pitched a complete game shutout and multiple huge outs were recorded. We didn't have to wait long as senior second baseman,
Trevor Jackson tracked a foul ball down the right field line and made a sliding catch to end first inning and leave a runner stranded at second. The Defenders found themselves on the scoreboard first early in the game. After
Nate Eliason worked a one-out walk,
Logan Harris stepped up and drove in Eliason on an RBI triple into the right field corner. Warrior's right fielder, Deven Gomez dove for the ball but couldn't make the catch and the Defenders would find themselves up 1-0 early. Another great defensive play happened just an inning later after Alec Villanueva hit a for sure double but didn't hustle out of the box.
Nate Eliason played it off of one hop near the center field fence and hit the cutoff, Logan Devries, who then fed a perfect ball to
Trevor Jackson covering second to throw out Villanueva. The Defenders added an insurance run in the fourth on a
Jason Carrig two-out double that brought in
Logan Harris from third.
Chaz Gothard would only allow two more hits in the fifth and sixth innings to hold on for the win.
