Box Score The Dordt Defender volleyball team came up short in a competitive three-set match at Hastings on Friday night, falling 25–23, 34–32, 25–22. Each set featured multiple lead changes and long rallies, with both teams trading momentum throughout.
In the opening set, Dordt overcame an early 9–5 deficit behind kills from
Laney Wolfswinkel and
Tarren Spartz and a block by
Myra Carlson and
Haley Kuperus to pull even at 21–21. The Defenders had several late chances to extend the set, but Hastings scored four of the final six points to take the 25–23 win.
The second set was a back-and-forth battle with 16 ties and several chances for each side to close it out. Dordt jumped ahead early 3–0 on a
Carlee Jackson ace and kills from
Myra Carlson and
Haley Kuperus, and later surged to a 9–4 advantage after back-to-back blocks by
Ada Dekkers and Kuperus. Hastings rallied, but Dordt regained leads late at 28–27 and 32–31 thanks to key kills from
Tarren Spartz and
Sara Holleman. The set extended deep into extra points before Hastings scored the final three to edge Dordt 34–32.
The Defenders again battled from behind in set three, using kills from
Laney Wolfswinkel and
Haley Kuperus, along with an ace from
Carlee Jackson, to erase a 16–9 deficit and close within 22–23. Despite the late push, Hastings held on for the sweep with a 25–22 finish.
