Women's Golf Completes Day One at McCoy Invite

The Dordt University women's golf team completed day one at the Virginia McCoy Fall Invite held at The National Golf Club in Kansas City, Mo.  The Defenders are in seventh place after the opening 18 holes with a 367, seven strokes in back of William Woods and 10 shots behind Evangel and a spot among the top five. 

Mount Mercy (Iowa) is the leader after the first round, holding an eight shot lead over second place Park (Mo.). 

Four Dordt golfers hold a spot in the top 30, led by sophomore Ashlee Sweeter with an 89 (+17) and tied for 20th overall. Hope Faber is 27th (92), followed by both Katherine Beekman and Jillian Eidsness who are tied for 28th with a 93 (+21). Ollie Large closes out the Defender scores with a 105 (+33). 

Catherine Rhoads (Evangel) is the leader after the opening 18 holes with a 75 (+3), one stroke better than Chiara Bothe of Mount Mercy.

Tuesday's final round at The Bluffs Gold Club will begin at 9:30am.

Notes:

  • today's round was held at The National Golf Club, a 5,867-yard, par 72 course
  • eight full teams and 49 golfers are in the field
  • Sweeter carded the lone birdie for the Defenders in today's first round, scoring a four on the par-five,  438-yard second hole
  • today's average score among the field was a 93.8
