The Dordt University men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Northwestern College in the final match of the regular season played tonight at the Defender Soccer Complex. The loss ends the season for the Defenders.
Northwestern (13-2-2, 8-1-1 GPAC) opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Drew Darnold netted his 13th goal of the season off a cross from Bongkefon Kumla. The Red Raiders doubled their lead early in the second half with another Darnold strike, again assisted by Kumla who hit another cross from the right-hand side.
Dordt (4-7-6, 1-5-4 GPAC) responded quickly, as Pablo Martin Domingo found the back of the net less than a minute later to cut the deficit to 2-1. The goal marked Domingo's second of the season and gave the Defenders a surge of momentum.
Northwestern, however, sealed the match in the 81st minute when Jovany Kabongo scored off a feed from Darnold, who finished with two goals and one assist on the night.
