The Defenders burst out to a 9-2 lead in the opening minutes, sparked by two early paint touches from
Jake Hargens and a
Connor Millikan three. Dordt carried that momentum throughout a high-scoring first half and again built an eight-point lead midway through the second half before MNU answered with a barrage of three-pointers to force overtime.
The first overtime ended in dramatic fashion. Dordt trailed 104-100 with under a minute to go but rallied behind a pair of defensive stops and key finishes at the rim before
Ty Van Essen converted a pair of free throws with under a second remaining after MidAmerica Nazarene had turned it over on an inbounds play.
Dylon Schaap scored early in the second overtime and Dordt had a 109-106 lead but a 5-0 run by the hosts put them in control and Dordt's shot at the buzzer was off the mark, making the Defenders 2-1 this season.
