Women's Cross Country Holds Top 10 Spot in NAIA Coaches' Poll

The Dordt University women's cross country team continues to hold a top 10 spot in the latest edition of the NAIA Coaches' poll released earlier today by the national office.

Notes:

  • the rating is compiled by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and unaffiliated groupings
  • the Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each rater rates the best teams; a team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place, 28 for third-place and so on through the list.
  • the Defenders fell back to seventh in the Oct.30 poll, down one spot from the last rating announced on Oct.16
    •  Dordt accounted for 441 points and still held one first place vote
    • they trail Cornerstone (Mich.), the team that passed them in the poll, by 37 points
  • Dordt has been ranked in the top 10 in every poll this season
    • they began the season ranked ninth
    • moved up to eighth in the first regular season poll
    • dropped back to ninth in the poll announced on Sept.25
    • moved up three spots to sixth in the last poll
  • the top three teams remain unchanged and held their respective spot from the last poll
    • Taylor, with 558 points and 18 of the 19 possible first place votes, leads the pack
    • Milligan (Tenn.) and Cumberlands (Ky.) follow at No.2 and No.3
    • The Master's (Calif.) and College of Idaho moved into the top five this week
  • the Defenders push their streak of being ranked in the top 25 to an NAIA-best 101 consecutive polls, a streak that began during the 2011 season
    • during the streak, Dordt has held a spot within the top ten 71x
    • Dordt's highest ranking (No.2) happened five times during the 2014 season
    • the next longest streak of being ranked in the top 25 is Taylor (92 straight polls)
  • Dordt is the lone team from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in the top 25
  • two GPAC teams, Morningside and College of Saint Mary, received votes
  • Dordt has finished among the top four five teams in all five meets this season
  • the Defenders have won three meets: Sunflower, Holiday Inn Express - Black Division, Mount Marty
  • the Defenders nearly tallied a perfect score in the first meet of the season, totaling 16 points
  • Dordt has not been beaten by an NAIA team
  • two Dordt runners, Joy Koole (Sept.17 and Oct.15) and Hannah Thong (Sept.24), have earned GPAC Runner of the Week honors this season
  • Dordt will run at the GPAC Championship on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Mahoney State Park in Ashland, Neb.
