Women's Golf | Defenders At Mustang Derby

The Event:
The Dordt University women's golf team will travel to Whispering Creek Golf Course in Sioux City, Iowa to compete in a two-day Mustang Derby hosted by Morningside.  The event will be a 36-hole event.

Briar Cliff, Mount Marty, Northwester, Morningside, Dakota Wesleyan, Iowa Central, Iowa Western and Dordt will have teams in the field that includes nine total squads.

Dordt's Lineup Last Time At Niobrara

The Defender women's golf team moved up one spot on the final day of the Mustang Derby at Whispering Creek in Sioux City, Iowa. The Defenders shot a 329, a 15 stroke improvement over round one on Monday and shot a 344-329=673 to take sixth in the field.

Dordt was seven strokes behind Mount Marty in the final standings and 11 in front of Northwestern and the 329 was fifth best for round two.

Julia Love shot a 78 on day two and closed with an 11th place finish with an 81-78=159 and Jillian Eidsness shot a 79 on Tuesday for an 84-79=163 to tie for 15th.

Morningside won the event with a 309-313=622 and was 13 strokes better than Dakota Wesleyan. Allison Meyerink (Dakota Wesleyan) was the individual medalist with a 74-73=147 in the 43 player field. 

The Defenders will be back in action on October 14 and 15 at Raindance National in Windsor, Colorado hosted by Hastings.  That meet will conclude the 2024 portion of the schedule.

The Dordt University women's golf team concluded play at the Mount Marty Invite with its second-best team score of the season over the final 18 holes played today at the Tatanka Golf Club in Niobrara, Nebraska. The two-day, 36-hole event was hosted by Mount Marty University.  The Defenders closed the two-day tournament with a 334, their second-best round of the fall season and a 25-stroke improvement from its first round score on Monday (359). Dordt moved up to fifth place in the final standings, up one spot from the first round, as they passed Peru State and nearly caught fourth-place Hastings. The Defenders had a 36-hole total of 693 (359 / 334), three strokes in back of Hastings and six shots better than Mount Marty (699). 

Doane maintained its first round lead and won the two-day tournament with a 609, four strokes ahead of second place Dakota Wesleyan, who recorded the best team-score on day two (303). Northwestern finished third (643).

Three Defenders finished among the top 25 individuals, led by Jillian Eidsness who finished 14th overall in the field of 39 golfers. Eidsness carded a season-best 78 this afternoon for a 36-hole total of 163 (85/78) and moved up five spots in the final standings. Ashlee Sweeter moved up three spots from Monday to finish 22nd with a career-best 82 in today's final round. The sophomore finished with a 171 (89/82). Katherine Beekman moved up five spots to 25th in the final standings with an 83, nine strokes better than Monday's first round score. Beekman totaled a 175 (92/83). Hope Faber (33rd - 186) and Ollie Large (36th - 190) round out the Defender scores. 

Allison Meyerink (Dakota Wesleyan) earned medalist honors with an even-par 72 in today's final round. Meyerink, who was tied for sixth going into today's round, finished one shot ahead of both Laila Saunders and Kaitlyn Dumler, both from Doane.

  • Ashlee Sweeter's round today of 82 is a career-best (was 84 from the second round of the Siouxland Invite)
  • Sweeter's 36-hole total (171) is her second-best of the season (170) and matches her second-best for her career
  • both Katherine Beekman and Ollie Large carded their second-best 36-hole score of the season
