The Dordt University women's golf team is in fifth place after day one of The Mustang Derby held at the Whispering Creek Golf Club in Sioux City, Iowa. The 2-day event is hosted by Morningside University and will conclude with another 18-holes on Tuesday, Oct. 7.Â
The Defenders shot a 349 (+61) this afternoon, one shot in front of sixth-place Morningside 'B' and three strokes behind Northwestern. The host team, Morningside, has an impressive 14-shot lead over two teams, Dakota Wesleyan and Iowa Western Community College, who are tied for second place.Â
Jillian Eidsness is tied for ninth place and is the top Defenders golfer after today's first round. The senior carded an 80 (+8) and is just four strokes in back of the leader, Sara Sudenga (DWU) who shot a 76. Eidsness is within two strokes of four golfers who are tied for second with a 78.Â
Ashlee Sweeter is the Defenders second golfer and is tied for 17th with an 85 (+13).
Katherine Beekman and
Hope Faber are tied for 27th with a 92 and
Ollie Large is 42nd (108).Â
