The Dordt University men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw on the road Wednesday evening against Morningside University at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
The result moves the Defenders to 4-4-4 overall and 1-2-2 in GPAC play; Morningside is now 2-2-1 in the GPAC, 4-6-1 overall.
Despite playing the final 20 minutes down a man following a red card, Dordt held firm defensively to secure the clean sheet. Goalkeeper
Shad Jaeger made one save in the match and, along with the back-line of
Anton Forsch,
Julian Janssen and
Nekild Agalliu, commanded the defense effectively throughout the match.
Dordt registered seven shots, two of which were on goal.
Marco Laenen and Zabala each recorded a shot on target, with Laenen's header in the 82nd minute forcing a save from Morningside's Tim Teschner.
Stephen Schreurs led the Defenders with two shot attempts.
Morningside outshot Dordt 10-7 and held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks in a match that saw limited scoring chances and plenty of midfield battles.
