Dordt opened the afternoon with a burst of energy, racing to a 10–2 lead behind Connor Millikan, who scored three baskets in the opening minutes and Judson Henkel, who added a pair of early layups of his own.
Hastings absorbed the initial surge and responded with a 17–5 stretch that flipped the momentum and eventually built a 31–24 lead as Dordt cooled offensively.
The Defenders answered through Nick Hanson, with baskets in the paint, and Asa Rogosich, with  timely threes and a key late-half layup to spark a comeback for a 44–42 lead into the break.
Dordt extended its edge early in the second half, shooting efficiently and pushing the advantage into double digits, where the Defenders stayed for much of the period. Connor Millikan was steady and finished with a season-high 28 points on 12-of-14 shooting. Hastings's comeback attempts were steadily denied and Dordt's 59.3% shooting pushed it to the 12-point win.
