Top-ranked Dordt University stayed unbeaten with an 83-44 victory over No. 25 Hastings (Neb.) in GPAC play this afternoon at the De Witt Gymnasium.
The Defenders head into Thanksgiving break with a perfect 7-0 record, 3-0 in the GPAC, while Hastings dropped to 4-3 overall, 2-1 in league play.
Gracie Schoonhoven poured in a career-high 30 points to go with a career-best 15 rebounds to lead the Defenders.
Willow Bleeker contributed a season-best 19 points, including five three-pointers, one shy of matching her career-high.
The game was tight early, with Hastings briefly leading 14-12 late in the first quarter after a three-pointer from Broncos guard Ann Bose. Dordt responded with an 8-0 run in the final 90 seconds, capped by a three-pointer from Ava Lingemann, to take a 20-14 lead after one quarter.
The Defenders extended the margin in the second quarter with a 13-2 spurt, fueled by back-to-back threes from Bleeker and strong inside play from Schoonhoven. Dordt also limited Hastings to just three field goals (3/16 from the field) and forced five turnovers in the quarter for a 41-23 advantage at halftime.
The Defenders opened the third quarter on a 14-2 run, highlighted by Schoonhoven's dominance in the paint (12pts in the period) and a fast-break three from Macy Sievers. Dordt shot 66.7% in the third and continued to stifle the Broncos offense (just 26% FG) as the Defenders built a 68-37 lead heading into the fourth.
A late 11-0 burst in the final period pushed Dordt's advantage to its largest of the day (41 points) with 3:23 remaining. Taylor Drent had four points in the surge, which was finished off by a three-pointer from Kaylee Davis.
