The Dordt University men's track and field team competed at the SDSU Holiday Open and the Defenders totaled 20 entries that finished in the top 10, highlighted by a NAIA 'B' standard qualifying time in the 4x400 relay.
The Defenders 4x400 relay team of
Levi Schelhaas,
Jacob Schmoll,
Noah Schroder and
Isaac Davelaar, in the final race of the meet, finished second overall with a 'B' standard time of 3:16.5. The Defenders trailed only NCAA D-I and host team, SDSU, who won the race with a time of 3:16.01. Dordt's time ranks fifth best all-time in program history.
Kaden Van Wyngarden recorded a second-place finish and personal-best time in the mile. The junior crossed the finish line in 4:17.8, trailing only Sean Murphy (SDSU). Van Wynarden's time today is ninth fastest all-time at Dordt.Â
Two Defenders, Schelhaas and Schmoll, posted a top 10 finish in the 200m. Schelhaas placed second overall (22.34) while Schmooll was sixth (22.62).Â
Micah Schaap was second in the long jump (22-03 / 6.78m) while
Aidan Schaap placed 10th overall (21-03.25 / 6.48m), good for the eighth best jump in program history.
Willem Den Hartog finished ninth in the pole vault with a personal-best mark of 4.55m (14-11), third best all-time at Dordt.
