Den Hartog, Fransman Qualify For Nationals on the Final Day of Red Raider Open

Field events and the decathlon earned the headlines for the Dordt University men's track and field team on the final day of the Red Raider Open held today in Orange City, Iowa. 

Notes

  • the conditions were very cold and windy at DeValois Stadium
  • two Defenders, Landon Fransman (High Jump) and Willem Den Hartog (Pole Vault), hit an NAIA Qualifying mark in their respective event
  • Fransman and his Defenders teammate, Grant Busker, finished 1-2 in the high jump
    • Fransman cleared a career-best 2.06m / 6-09 and hit the NAIA 'B' standard where he is currently tied for fourth in the NAIA
    • Fransman's jump is tied with Chris Fransman (2005) for second best jump all-time at Dordt (trailing Jacob Moats - 7'01" in 2017)
  • Busker, who won the GPAC title in the high jump during this past indoor season, cleared a personal-best 2.01m / 6-07 and moved into a tie for fifth best all-time at Dordt
  • Den Hartog set the school record in the pole vault for the second consecutive week, clearing 4.80m / 15-09 which hit the NAIA 'B' standard
    • Den Hartog is currently tied for 10th in the NAIA and sits No.1 in the GPAC
  • Micah Evenhouse and Isaac Fergen joined Den Hartog within the top five in today's pole vault
  • Aidan Schaap and Nathan Adams, competing in their first ever decathlon, posted top 10 finishes in the event
    • Schaap finished sixth overall with 5,400points, currently the second best point total in the GPAC
      • Schaap placed second in the 1500m and was fourth in both the long jump and shot put
    • Adams placed eighth with 5,046 points, fourth best in the GPAC
      • Adams won two events in the decathlon, 1500m and the pole vault
  • Luke Swanson picked up the lone win for the Defenders on the track, taking first in the 1500m
    • Swanson came across the finish line in 4:04 and led a group of seven Dordt runners who finished in the top 10 in the event
    • Hudson Hamilton (3rd) and Kaden Van Wyngarden (5th) placed in the top five
  • Ethan Miller placed third in the 400m with a time of 52.08
  • Dordt was the runner-up in the 4x400 relay; the team of Scott Kroll, Micah Schaap, Landon Meerdink and Isaiah Johnson recorded a time of 3:25.99
