The Defenders were unable to overcome a resilient Hastings team that had a swift answer every time Dordt threatened to take control of the game. The Defenders scored six in a row early on two Janie Van Donge baskets sandwiched around a Macy Sievers basket in the first quarter for a 17-11 lead. The hosts answered with an 11-0 run to lead 22-17 with 1:35 left in the first quarter and had a 23-19 lead at the quarter break.

A 6-0 run for the Defenders capped by an Olivia Harazin basket put Dordt up 25-23 and by the 5:00 mark Dordt was up 35-27 after Willow Bleeker made two quick three-point shots. The Broncos responded by going on a 13-0 run over the next three minutes to lead 40-35 with Ellie Lems stopping the streak with a basket off an assist by Gracie Schoonhoven and that's how the quarter ended.

Dordt rallied again in the third quarter and it was Bleeker's three with 8:37 left in the period that put Dordt up 44-42 but the hosts went up 56-47 and extended the lead to 11. Dordt was within two on two different occasions late in the quarter and trailed 67-64. Lems got a basket just over a minute into the fourth to get to 67-66 but never took the lead and were within 73-72 at the 6:47 mark. The Defenders were unable to get over the hump as the lead ballooned to nine again and Dordt was never closer than four the rest of the game and fell 91-83.

Dordt is 22-1 overall and 16-1 in the conference with five games remaining.

Hastings is 16-6 overall and 11-5 in the GPAC.

Dordt will host Northwestern on Wednesday night and Midland on Saturday afternoon.
