Box Score (PDF)

Dordt pulled away from a 7-7 tie in the first set with four points in a row.  The Bees hung close up to a 16-12 difference before another 4-0 run by Dordt effectively put the set out of reach and Joel Van Groningen had two kills in the stretch as Dordt won by a 25-16 margin.

The visitors had a 12-9 lead in set two when Andres Guzman started a 5-0 run with a kill and Joel Van Groningen added another with Brady Fergen putting an ace serve in during the stretch as well. The Defenders eventually scored five of the last six points and Cade Schmidt had three of the points on kills for another 25-16 win.

Dordt scored the first five points of set three and eight of the first nine but the lead slipped away as the Bees rallied to within 15-14 on the strength of a 6-0 run. St. Ambrose eventually tied the set at 20-20 but a service error put Dordt in front 21-20 and Schmidt added to the lead with a kill.  The Bees never tied the set again and Guzman had a kill to end the set for a 25-22 Dordt win.

Dordt will open conference play on Tuesday, February 11 at home against Morningside.

COACH HANSON SAID

"Our offense came alive today with Lukas Van Groningen delivering sets that the hitters felt very comfortable attacking. Brady Fergen and Lukas were strong defensively for us. What impressed me the most about our play was the instinctive intelligence we demonstrated through imbalanced moments where we were out of system. This team is exciting to watch."
