Box Score The Dordt men's volleyball team fell to the William Penn Statesmen in three sets in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Defenders dropped a lopsided first set where they hit -.050 and allowed William Penn to hit .688. William Penn opened up the game with a 8-2 lead. Dordt answered with two straight to cut into the lead off an
Andres Guzman service ace. The Statesmen would hold a steady lead for the rest of the set and would take a 1-0 lead after winning 25-16.
The Defenders improved both offensively and defensively in the second set. This time hitting .100 and holding William Penn to .375. Dordt opened up with a kill from
Lukas Van Groningen but William Penn answered back with a kill of their own. A service error gave Dordt the lead but two straight points for William Penn gave them the lead for the first time in the second set. Points would be traded for quite some time but a 9-3 Statesman run gave them a 16-12 lead. Josh Bluhm would end set two with a service ace.
The third set saw the best offensive performance from the Defenders of the day as they hit .333. Dordt started with a 4-2 lead and then three straight points gave them a 7-4 lead. Once again, both teams traded points for a while and Dordt had a two point advantage, 13-11. A 5-1 run from William Penn gave them a 16-14 lead and an 8-2 run for William Penn put them in position to complete the sweep with the score being 24-18. Dordt rattled off four straight points but were unable to avoid the sweep as they dropped the third set, 25-21.
Dordt is now 11-9 overall and 5-8 in conference play. They hold fourth place in the Heart of America North division and are one game ahead of Morningside. Their next game will be on March 18 against Graceland.
