The Dordt Defender men's volleyball team notched another Heart of America Athletic Conference win over Clarke on Friday night to move to 8-9 in league play and solidified its grip on fourth place in the North Division of the league with two matches remaining. Dordt earned a sweep over The Pride 25-14, 28-26, 25-20.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Defenders were up 6-5 in set one when a
Lance Vermeer kill started a 9-0 run  capped by a
Cade Schmidt ace serve. Dordt kept it rolling and was never challenged in closing out the 25-14 wi
.
Set two was close until the 8-7 mark when the Pride scored four in a row for a 12-7 advantage. A kill by
Andres Guzman and an attack error got the difference down to 12-9 but Clarke answered with four in a row. Dordt closed to within 19-18 but didn't tie the game until a
Cade Schmidt kill made it 22-22. Dordt got to set point at 24-23 but Clarke answered with back to back points to get to set point itself. A
Kai Chapman kill and a block by Vermeer and Schmidt put Dordt in front. After a Dordt service error the Defenders got a solo block from
Lukas Van Groningen and a Schmidt ace serve for the 28-26 win.
Clarke again raced out to a 13-8 lead in set three before Guzman and Chapman each had a kill. Dordt didn't pull even until it was 20-20 and a
Lukas Van Groningen ace put Dordt up 21-20. Dordt closed with four more points in succession and won it 25-20.
