The Dordt University women's track and field team qualified two events for the finals on day one of the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships held at the Wildcat Stadium in Marion, Ind. The 3-day championship is hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.
 First on the track was the Defenders 4x800 relay and the quartet of
Jaci Burtis,
Shelby Buwalda,
Emilee Heynen and
Corinne Braun won their heat and posted the second fastest time in the prelim. Dordt, seeded No.1 overall, crossed the finish line in 9:13.5, only .03 of a second slower than Marian (Ind.). All four Defender runners posted a split of 2:19 or faster and the crew was in first or second place throughout the entire race.Â
Competing in her first championship,
Addy Crow qualified for the finals in the 3000m steeplechase. In ninth place after the opening 200m, Crow moved up four spots on the second lap and made up three more places over the final five laps to place third in her heat. The freshman posted the fourth fastest time overall (11:12) and qualified for Friday's final.
