The Dordt Defender hockey team won its fourth game in a row with a 5-3 road win over Creighton on Saturday, September 27 in Omaha, Nebraska. The Defenders will continue their road battles next week with a pair of games in Fayetteville, Arkansas against the Razorbacks.
Dordt scored at the 8:31 mark of the first period on a goal by
Rylan Veenstra with assists by
Zach Espenson and
Mason Spejcher. After a Creighton goal a minute later the Defenders scored 14 minutes into the period with
Christopher Janssen finding the net and
Connor Perakslis got the assist.
Creighton had an answer with an early second period goal but Dordt unlocked the tie with
Mason Carrels scoring on an assist by
Preston Waage. A Creighton goal late in the period sent it to the third period tied at 3-3.
Less than two minutes into the final stanza
Tegan Doelman scored with
Andrew Benson assisting and a goal at the end of regulation by Benson gave Dordt the final margin of victory.
Isaiah Van Noord faced 31 shots and made 28 saves. Dordt had 63 shots.
Dordt is now 4-1.
