The Dordt University women's soccer team came up short in a tightly contested, non-conference road matchup on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 to No.9 Missouri Valley at Greg Mitchell Field in Marshall, Mo.
The Defenders (1-3-1) battled back from a first-half deficit to equalize in the second half, but a quick response from the Vikings (2-0-2) sealed the result.
Missouri Valley (2-0-2) opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Zoe Christofaro converted a pass from Ana Rendon to give the hosts a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Dordt responded in the 66th minute with a goal from
Karinna Tel, who received a pass at midfield from
Jenna Roberts, dribbled by the Vikings defense and blasted a left-footed shot into the back of the net to level the match at 1-1.
Just over two minutes later, Missouri Valley reclaimed the lead on an unassisted goal by Judit Ferre in the 69th minute, which held as the game-winner.
Goalkeeper
Lydia Zylstra anchored the Dordt defense with 12 saves, keeping the Defenders within striking distance throughout the match. Tel led the offensive effort with four shots, three on goal, while
Joslyn Terpstra added three shots, two on frame.
