Men's Basketball | Defenders Drop Road Battle

Concordia (Neb.) used timely three-point shooting and late free throws to hold off Dordt, 92–86, in a tightly contested GPAC men's basketball matchup on Saturday afternoon at Friedrich Arena in Seward. The game featured nine ties and 17 lead changes, with neither team leading by more than eight points.

Dordt opened the game scoring its first 11 points on three three-pointers by Connor Millikan and Jake Proctor. After Concordia briefly answered with baskets by Brooks Kissinger and Zac Kulus, the Defenders put together a 9–0 run midway through the half, highlighted by consecutive threes from Proctor and another deep ball from Millikan, to take a 17–13 lead. Dordt later extended the advantage to 26–20 following a Judson Henkel three-point play.

Concordia responded late in the half behind Hayden Frank and Kissinger, closing on a 7–1 run that included back-to-back Frank three-pointers and a Kissinger triple in the final minute. Jake Proctor's layup and free throw in the closing seconds pulled Dordt even, sending the game into halftime tied at 47–47.

The second half held momentum swings. Dordt briefly regained the lead with early baskets from Proctor and Millikan, while Henkel scored inside to tie the game at 49–49. Concordia countered with strong perimeter shooting, as Kulus and Frank each knocked down key three-pointers to build a 71–63 advantage with just under 12 minutes remaining.

Millikan scored seven straight Defender points during a stretch that included a three-pointer and a mid-range jumper, helping Dordt reclaim a 72–71 lead at the 8:16 mark. The teams traded baskets over the next several minutes, with Proctor's free throws giving Dordt an 81–80 edge with 3:51 remaining.

Concordia took control in the closing minutes behind Frank and Garret Johnson, who combined for three three-pointers in the final 2:47. Dordt stayed within striking distance as Proctor and Millikan converted in transition, but Kissinger sealed the outcome at the free throw line in the final seconds as Concordia secured the 92–86 victory.
