Schaap, Davelaar and Relays Highlight Defenders Performances at Minnesota State

The Dordt University men's track and field team turned in a strong showing on Saturday, highlighted by a meet-winning Distance Medley Relay, a school record performance by Micah Schaap and four national qualifying times / marks.

Notes:

  • Micah Schaap qualified for nationals and established a school record in the long jump
    • the senior placed sixth overall and was the top NAIA jumper with a mark of 7.21m / 23-08, achieved on his first attempt
    • Schaap surpassed the previous school record (23'2.5"), that he set in 2024, by nearly six inches
    • Schaap moves into No.13 in the current NAIA standings
  • Isaac Davelaar was the other Defender to hit a qualifying standard in an indvidual event and was part of two relays that also qualified for nationals
    • Davelaar was the top NAIA runner in the 400m, placing second overall with a 'B' standard time of 48.28
    • the junior finished just behind Del Johnson Jr. (Concordia-St.Paul) and is currently 13th in the NAIA standings
  • Davelaar anchored the Defenders to a second place finish in the final event, the 4x400 relay
    • Davelaar, Isaiah Johnson, Noah Schroder and Bennet Wassenaar ran a season-best time of 3:16 and bettered their 'B' standard qualifying time set earlier this season
    • the Defenders quartet moved into No.8 in the NAIA
  • Kaden Van Wyngarden and Hudson Hamilton posted a pair of top 10 finishes in the mile
    • Van Wyngarden placed fourth and recorded the ninth fastest time in program history (4:17)
    • Hamilton crossed the finish line in 10th place with a time of 4:22
  • Levi Landman placed fifth in the 3000m with a personal-best time of 8:39, 8th best in program history, closely followed by Truman Johnson in sixth place (8:45.10)
  • Isaiah Johnson, a day after running the 400m in the Defenders winning distance medley, ran the 8th best 60m time in Defender history
