HOW IT HAPPENED
The Defenders opened set one with early kills from Joel Van Groningen and Cade Schmidt, but Jamestown countered with a 5–1 run to flip a 10–8 Dordt lead into a 13–11 deficit. Dordt later strung together three straight—highlighted by a Lance Vermeer block and a Van Groningen kill—to pull within 22–21 before the Jimmies closed the frame.
Set two followed a similar pattern: Dordt trailed 14–10, surged back with a 4–0 run behind tough serving from Kai Champman, but Jamestown answered with five straight points to regain control.
The Defenders' best stretch came in set three, when Van Groningen ignited a 6–1 run with three kills and a block assist from Cory Kuperus, turning a 14–13 deficit into a 19–15 lead on the way to a 25–22 win.
Dordt again pushed late in set four—pulling within 21–20 after kills from Schmidt and Vermeer—but Jamestown used a final 4–2 burst to seal the match.
Dordt will resume play next weekend with triangulars on Friday and Saturday, February 6 and 7 with a 4-2 record.
