The Dordt University women's track and field team completed day one at the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Indoor Championships and
Jenny Lumkes and
Tabitha Buwalda recorded personal bests in the pentathlon.
The two-day championship is being held at the Holwerda Family Indoor Track on the campus of Dordt University.
Lumkes finished fifth overall with a personal-best point total of 3,001, 203 points more than her previous best. With her finish, Lumkes earns all-conference honors gives the Defenders their first points toward the team score (4). Competing in her second GPAC Indoor Championship, Lumkes turned in personal bests in three of the five events (60m hurdles, High Jump and 800m). The sophomore's best finish was in the long jump (4) and also placed in the top five in the high jump (5th).
Competing in her first GPAC Indoor Championship, Buwalda placed 11th overall with a personal-best total of 2,659 points, an improvement of 255 points from her previous best. The freshman had personal-bests in her first three events (60m hurdles, high jump and shot put). Buwalda's best finish was second in the long jump and fourth in the 800m.
