The Dordt Defender hockey team won its fifth game in a row and finished the regular season with a 24-3 record after beating Nebraska 14-3 on Saturday afternoon in the Vernon Arena at Sioux Center, Iowa.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Defenders got up 3-0 after one period with goals from
Mason Spejcher,
Reuben Horneman and
Tegan Doelman. All three ended the day with multiple goals as Spejcher scored one in each period and Horneman added two in the second period before capping the scoring on an assist by Chris Janssen in the third period.
The Huskers were down 10-1 after two periods and Dordt outscored the visitors 3-2 in the final period, making it a season sweep of Nebraska in four games this season.
Tegan Doelmam had two goals and two assists and Emmet Riley,
Levi Loken,
Connor Perakslis,
Andrew Benson and
Isaac Baart all accounted for two assists each.
Isaiah Van Noord got the win in goal with 18 saves as Dordt outshot Nebraska 47-21.
Dordt awaits the pairings for the MACHA Tournament beginning on February 20.
