Baseball | Defenders Split With Lawrence Tech To Complete Trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Dordt Defenders earned a split with Lawrence Tech on Monday night, March 9 to complete its Florida Trip and come back to Iowa with a 10-10 record and will open GPAC play on March 13 in Fremont, Nebraska against Midland with four games in two days.  Dordt is scheduled to play its home opener on March 21. The GPAC schedule will consist of four weekend games for seven weeks in a row, capping the season on April 24.

The Dordt Defenders were limited to three hits and fell behind early in a 9-2 loss to Lawrence Tech in the opening game of a doubleheader on Monday in Auburndale, Florida.

Lawrence Tech scored twice in the first inning after loading the bases with three walks. A ground ball double play brought home the first run and another run scored on a Dordt error for a 2-0 lead.

Dordt answered in the second inning when Logan Harris doubled to center field and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jarett Herz to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Blue Devils added two more runs in the third inning, highlighted by a Brady Lee RBI triple, pushing the lead to 4-1. Dordt got a run back in the fourth inning when Andres Garces reached on an error and Logan Harris scored to
make it 4-2.

Lawrence Tech pulled away late, scoring three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to build the final margin. Dordt had an opportunity in the fifth inning after loading the bases with no hits but could not push a run across as
Lawrence Tech kept the Defenders off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

The Dordt Defenders responded with a big offensive performance in the nightcap, scoring in four of the first five innings and holding off Lawrence Tech for a 12-10 victory to split the doubleheader.

Dordt took the early lead in the first inning when Drew Oreskes doubled to score Joey Schlesselman and Logan Harris followed with an RBI single for a 2-0 advantage.

Lawrence Tech rallied for three runs in the second inning to take a 3-2 lead, but Dordt responded immediately with a three-run frame of its own. The Defenders used walks and a Lawrence Tech error to tie the game before run-scoring walks by Oreskes and Logan Templeton gave Dordt a 5-3 edge.

Dordt extended the lead in the third inning with two more runs as the Defenders again used patience at the plate to draw multiple walks and push the lead to 7-3.

The Defenders broke the game open in the fourth inning with four runs, including an RBI walk by Andres Garces and a sacrifice fly by Jarett Herz. Two additional runs scored on passed balls to extend the lead to 11-6.

Stephen Dillender added an insurance run in the fifth inning with a solo home run to center field for a 12-7 advantage.

Lawrence Tech attempted to rally with three runs in the sixth inning, including a home run by Andrew Merz and an RBI triple by Brady Lee, but Dordt reliever Jacob Camp closed the door with a scoreless seventh inning to secure the win.
