The Dordt Defenders used a five-run third inning to erase an early deficit and went on to defeat Midland 9-4 in the opening game of a GPAC doubleheader played Friday in Fremont, Nebraska.

Midland jumped in front early with three runs in the first inning, using a hit batter with the bases loaded and a two-run single by Owen Glover to claim the 3-0 advantage. Dordt answered in the third with its biggest inning of the day.
Jimmy Twombley started the rally with an RBI double and
Logan Templeton followed with an RBI single.
Logan Harris drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game and
Stephen Dillender reached on an error that plated another run.
Joey Schlesselman capped the inning with a sacrifice fly that gave Dordt a 5-3 lead. Midland trimmed the margin to 5-4 with a solo homer by Jimmy Martinez in the bottom of the third, but Dordt added two runs in the fourth, another in the fifth and one more in the seventh to pull away for the win.

The game remained scoreless through the first inning before Midland broke through with two runs in the second on an RBI single by Adam Muniz Jr. and a steal of home by Jax Sorensen.
Midland extended the lead in the third with back-to-back home runs from Eimir Perez Jr. and Owen Glover to push the margin to 5-0. A solo home run by Chase Bouges in the fourth and a three-run fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run triple from Brody Boyle, stretched the lead to 9-0. Dordt got on the board in the seventh when
