The Dordt Defenders scored early but a nine-run second inning by Midland proved decisive in a 12-9 loss to the Warriors on Saturday afternoon in Fremont, Nebraska.
Midland answered immediately with a massive second inning. The Warriors produced eight hits in the frame and took advantage of several Dordt errors, scoring nine runs to flip the game from a six-run deficit to a 9-6 lead. Key hits in the inning included a two-run triple by Hunter Spencer and a two-run triple by Owen Glover.
Midland added single runs in the third and fifth innings to extend the lead to 11-6.
The Defenders rallied in the seventh inning. Templeton and Harris reached to start the frame and
Stephen Dillender launched a three-run home run to left-center field, trimming the deficit to 11-9. Dordt was unable to get closer, however, as Midland held on for the three-run victory.
Dordt finished with 10 hits in the contest. Templeton led the effort with two hits while Dillender drove in three runs.

Midland used early pressure and capitalized on defensive miscues to defeat Dordt 15-5 in the second game of Saturday's GPAC doubleheader in Fremont, Nebraska.
The Warriors opened the scoring in the first inning with a sacrifice RBI by Owen Glover to take a 1-0 lead. Midland added three runs in the second inning, scoring once on a sacrifice bunt and taking advantage of a Dordt error that brought home two more runs.
Midland broke the game open in the third inning. The Warriors scored five runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single from Brody Boyle and a steal of home during the rally. The surge pushed Midland's lead to 9-0.
Dordt answered in the fourth inning when
Logan Templeton doubled and later scored on an error, and
Luke Arndorfer followed with an RBI single to trim the deficit to 9-2. The Defenders added another run in the fifth as
Logan Harris drove in
Ryan Vann on a fielder's choice to make it 9-3.
Midland extended the margin with four runs in the fifth inning, including a two-run double by Eimir Perez Jr., and added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Dordt plated two runs in the seventh inning when Jimmy Twombley tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Drew Oreskes. Templeton followed with a double and Harris drove him home with a ground-rule double to close the scoring.
Templeton led Dordt with a four-hit game while Harris added two hits and two RBIs.
