Women's Basketball Athletic Communication Office

Women's Basketball | NAIA Semifinal Preview

Dordt will face Dakota State in the NAIA National Championship Semifinals on Monday, March 23 in Sioux City, Iowa at the NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship. The game will tip off at 6pm with the winner advancing to the championship of the bracket to be played on Tuesday at 7pm. The Dordt/Dakota State winner will face the winner of Dakota Wesleyan/Marian.

Dakota State beat Grand View in the NAIA 1st Round 102-51 after getting up 22-2 after one quarter. Dakota State converted 50 percent percent of its field goals in the win and held Grand View to 31 percent success.

Dakota State earned a 104-74 win over Bethel KS on March 14 in the 2nd Round of the NAIA Tournament. The Lady Ts had a 29-16 lead after one quarter and rolled with 53 percent shooting and had a 42-34 rebounding advantage.

Dakota State fought through a close game with Indiana Wesleyan in the Round of 16 and secured a 73-65 win on Thursday, March 19. Dakota State converted 44 percent of its field goals and forced 15 turnovers while committing eight. Indiana Wesleyan converted 24-55 field goals with but made just 10-22 free throws in the loss.

In the NAIA Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 21, Dakota State had a fast start and then bounced back after giving up the lead 72-71 with 5:13 left in the game. The Lady Ts proceeded to go on an 11-0 run ver the next three minutes and held on to win 86-79.

Dordt was a 120-47 winner over Simpson on Friday night, March 13 in the first round, after taking a 13-0 lead to start the game and holding a 39-15 lead after one quarter.  The Defenders were up 73-20 at halftime and converted 63 percent of their field goals and had a 50-27 rebounding advantage. All 14 Defenders scored and four players hit double figures.

The Defenders handled Rocky Mountain 85-54 on March 14 in the second round and got out to a 26-14 lead in the first quarter and led 42-19 at halftime. Dordt converted 44 percent of its field goals and had a 37-35 rebounding edge.  Rocky Mountain was limited to 37 percent field goal shooting and committed 23 turnovers.

Dordt was a 75-53 winner over MidAmerica Nazarene on Thursday night in the Round of 16 and used a 9-0 run midway through the third period to go up by 15 points and the Defenders were never challenged the rest of the game. Dordt had a 49-31 rebounding edge and held MidAmerica Nazarene to 32 percent field goal shooting while converting 42 percent.

Dordt was an 83-62 winner over Saint Francis Saturday afternoon in the NAIA Quarterfinals.  A 12-0 run late in the first half led to a 41-31 halftime lead and the second half difference was never less than 10 and used a 9-0 run midway through the third period to go up by 15 points and the Defenders were never challenged the rest of the game. Dordt converted 48 percent of its field goals and limited Saint Francis to 37 percent shooting. Dordt had a 41-20 rebounding edge  overcame 16 turnovers.

THE SERIES
 Dordt leads the series with Dakota State 30-21 and the teams have played almost every year since 1983. The two teams have played tight games the last two seasons at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This season the teams played on November 11 and Dordt held on to win 86-82.
 
The Defenders got out to a 23-11 lead and led 38-33 at halftime. Dordt pushed the lead back to double figures in the third quarter but Dakota State came back again and trailed 64-57 at the end of the third quarter with Willow Bleeker converting a couple free throws late in the period. Dakota State rallied again in the fourth quarter and were within three late but Dordt held on to win 86-82.
