The Dordt University women's track and field team completed day one of competition at the Wildcat Invite and three Defenders recorded top 10 finishes, highlighted by a record-breaking performance by
Makenna Walhof in the hammer throw.
Walhof, along with Defenders teammate
Fran Travis, both finished among the top 10 in the hammer. Competing against NAIA and NCAA D-II schools, Walhof placed third with a school record toss of 55.35m (181-07), breaking the old record held by
Jenna Gleason (169-09, 2024). Walhof's record-breaking mark came on her first attempt and hit the auto qualifying standard. She currently has the top mark in the NAIA. Travis placed ninth overall with a personal-best toss of 48.00m (157-05) which is the fifth best mark all-time in program history.
Lynne Tormoehlen (14th - 44.99m) and
Maren Hettinga (36th - 34.26m) also competeted for the Defenders.Â
Ava Ingwersen placed 10th among a field of 20 in the javelin with a personal-best mark of 30.79m / 101-00.
Morgan Groen (12th - 30.20m) and
Hannah Graves (12th - 26.80m) were the other Dordt finishers.
