The Dordt University women's golf team lost to Hastings 4-1 in the final competition of the Briar Cliff Match Play event, a two-day meet held at Green Valley Golf Club in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Defenders finished the two-day meet with a 1-2 record, defeating Northwestern in its first match before dropping matches to Morningside and Hastings.
Hope Faber picked up the lone Defenders win, earning an 8&6 victory over Abbie Winterbottom. Starting her match on the 12th hole, Faber led from start to finish against Winterbottom and closed out the match on the par 3, 5th hole, the duo's 12th hole played in the match.
Ashlee Sweeter lost her match (2up) to Kya Shatzer, ending with a bogey on the hole nine, the duo's 16th hole played. Sweeter made three pars and one birdie in today's round. The sophomore went 2-up early in the match after a birdie on 18 but lost four of the next five holes to Shatzer.
Jillian Eidsness lost to Tyesha Tynes 6&5, ending her day with two pars. Tied after the first two holes (holes 12 and 13), Eidsness fell behind for good after the par-5 14th hole.
Katherine Beekman dropped her match to Makayla Miller 1up, her first loss over the two-day event. Beekman was down two after the 18th hole (7 holes of play) but rallied with a par on the first and eventually tying the match after the sixth hole (five holes left to play). The senior took the lead with bogie on the 7th hole and still led with two holes left before Miller won the final two holes. Beekman made three pars in her round today.
Ollie Large dropped her match to Lindsey Warsnak 8&6.
Dordt will compete at the Kaitlyn Erickson Invite, a two-day meet hosted by Doane, at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Course (Monday, April 13) and Pioneers Golf Course (Tuesday, April 14).
