(Wednesday, March 4; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference has announced its women's basketball postseason honors, and five Dordt players have earned recognition in voting conducted by the conference coaches at the conclusion of the regular season.
For the second straight year, Macy Sievers (Senior; Storm Lake, Iowa) has been named the Player of the Year, and for the third consecutive season she is an All-GPAC First Team selection. Sievers is averaging 16.2 points per game with 7.7 rebounds, 9.1 assists, and 3.1 steals. She has 1,817 career points and ranks fourth all-time at Dordt. She is the program's career leader in assists with 1,014 and steals with 372. Sievers also has 934 career rebounds, which ranks third all-time.
Gracie Schoonhoven (Junior; Hospers, Iowa) is averaging a team-high 22.2 points per game and has established a new single-season scoring record at Dordt with 688 points. She is converting 63.5 percent of her field goal attempts and averages 6.3 rebounds per game with 2.0 assists and 2.2 steals. Schoonhoven has 1,358 career points and ranks eighth all-time. She was an honorable mention selection last season and a Second Team pick as a freshman.
Willow Bleeker (Junior; Sioux Center, Iowa) was selected to the Second Team and is averaging 8.3 points per game while converting 41.6 percent of her three-point attempts. She has made 67 three-point field goals this season and averages 2.6 rebounds per game. Bleeker has made 168 career three-point field goals and ranks fifth all-time at Dordt. She was an honorable mention selection last season.
Aubrey Burkhart (Freshman; Shorewood, Minnesota) earned honorable mention honors with a 9.4 points-per-game average. She has made 73 three-point field goals and is converting 41 percent of her three-point attempts.
Desta Hoogendoorn (Sophomore; Rock Rapids, Iowa) is averaging 7.4 points per game and was also an honorable mention selection. She averages 6.1 rebounds per game, is shooting 53.3 percent from the field, and has recorded 29 blocked shots.
The Defenders are 29-2 and won their fourth straight GPAC regular season title this year. They await the bracket announcement for the NAIA National Championship, which will be made late Thursday, March 5. Dordt will host first- and second-round games on March 13-14.
