Softball | Two-Win Day For Defenders

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Dordt split a pair of games on Friday, March 6, 2026, in Florida, using a massive first-inning explosion to dominate Ave Maria before outlasting Grace (IN) in an eight-inning thriller.

Dordt wasted no time, scoring eight runs in the first inning to cruise to a 13-0 victory over Ave Maria in five innings.

The Defenders' offense was unstoppable from the start. Chloe Kreuz ignited the rally with a leadoff home run to left field. The opening frame featured five Ave Maria errors, which Dordt capitalized on through RBI singles from
Lauren Steenstra and Aubrey DeShaw. Addison Stephenson-Roy and Chloe Kreuz also reached on errors that allowed three more runs to cross the plate.

Dordt extended the lead in the second inning when Kacie Karsak launched a two-run home run. Annabelle Hensley added an RBI groundout in the third, while Abigail Tweedy and Julia Bremer capped the scoring with RBI singles in the fourth.

On the mound, Abigail Tweedy was dominant, throwing four hitless innings with six strikeouts to earn the win. Emerson Van Meter closed out the combined three-hit shutout in the fifth.

In a back-and-forth battle, Dordt scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to secure an 8-5 victory over Grace (IN).

Dordt took an early lead in the first when Annabelle Hensley doubled home Chloe Kreuz. Grace tied it in the second on an error, but the Defenders regained the lead in the fourth behind a double steal by Sumaya Edwards and an RBI single from Tera Lynn Price. Lauren Steenstra doubled the lead to 4-1 in the seventh.

Grace mounted a dramatic comeback in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs on RBI singles by Paige McCorkle and Emma Hiss to force extra innings.

In the eighth, Addison Stephenson-Roy delivered the decisive blow with a two-run triple. Chloe Kreuz followed with an RBI double, and Rylee Yager added an insurance run with an RBI single. Yager then finished her complete-game performance in the bottom half, allowing only one unearned run to seal the win.
