Men's Track and Field Preview - Sioux City Relays

The Event: 

  • the Dordt University men's track and field team is set to compete in the Sioux City Relays this weekend (April 10-11)
  • Friday's events will begin at 10am (shot put) and will conclude with the 10K at 9pm
  • Saturday's events will begin at 11am with the pole vault and will run through the 4x400 relay at 5pm
  • all of the events will take place at Elwood-Olsen Stadium in Sioux City, Iowa

Schedule Outlook:

  • this is the third week of competition for the Defenders during the outdoor season
  • the outdoor season is made up of five weeks of the regular season where the Defenders have scheduled eight meets, leading up to the conference championship in week six
  • this year's GPAC Outdoor Championship will be on May 1-2 and hosted by Midland University in Fremont, Neb.
  • following a "last chance qualifier" in Vermillion, S.D. on May 8, the Defenders, who qualify, will compete at the 2026 NAIA Outdoor Championships
  • this year's outdoor championship will be in Asheville, N.C.

Last Time Out:

  • the Defenders competed as a split squad earlier this week, sending the steeplechase crew to Concordia on Monday and the rest of the team to compete in Vermillion, S.D. on Wednesday
  • on Monday, Hudson Hamilton led a contingent of 11 Defenders that competed in the steeplechase, placing second with a time of 9:51
  • Truman Johnson (3rd), Levi Landman (5th), Isaac Fagan (6th), Lawson Burkhart (7th) and Sammy King (10th) also finished in the top 10
  • at USD on Wednesday, the Defenders 4x400 relay team of Levi Schelhaas, Jacob Schmoll, Noah Schroder and Isaac Davelaar placed first and qualified for nationals with a time of 3:14, 6th fastest in the NAIA
  • Isaac Davelaar won the 400m
  • both Micah Evenhouse (#8 in Pole Vault) and Thomas Peltzer (#6 in shot put) turned in all-time top 10 marks
  • the Defenders registered 16 personal best times / marks
  • Defender athletes recorded 22 top 10 finishes
